Play! by Sephora: July 2016 Unboxing
When it comes to makeup subscription boxes, like Gwen Stefani once epically said, "a few times I've been around that track." I'd always cancel them a few months in either because I wasn't liking the packaging or I wasn't liking the products or whatever other reasons they give you on the form you HAVE to fill out when you cancel. In all the subscription boxes I've tried, it was mostly makeup from brands that I'd never heard of, which no, isn't a bad thing. But I would be disappointed with the products I got and they would inevitably end up rotting at the bottom of my makeup bag. Sure there were some gems. In fact, it was though Ipsy that I found my love for the Boscia BB Cream. Nonetheless, the gems just never justified paying $10/month for products I wasn't really using.
Play! by Sephora seemed to be different. On their site, they claim the products in their box are most sought-after and are picked from the shelves of the store just for you . Each box has six product samples, one of which is always a perfume, and comes in a collectable bag. After watching a few unboxings on YouTube, and being envious of the high quality free samples, I signed up to be on the waitlist. I missed my opportunity to sign up one or two times before I was finally able to claim my spot on their mailing list.
In addition to the product, the box also has a pamphlet that tells you everything about the product, including ingredients, how-tos, about the brand, and a Play! Card that, when brought into a store, gets you a free one-on-one tutorial on the products. I thought the bag for this month was so adorable and could have so many uses.
For my first box, I was pleasantly surprised and excited about the products. They all came from brands I had heard of and were products that I've actually been meaning to try out. From left to right:
Nest Fragrances in Citrine: I am by no means a perfume person. My only perfume bottle is actually Taylor Swift's Wonderstruck. Which is a solid scent, but I really never venture out and try new ones. This sample smells like a sweet citrus and I can actually see myself wearing it on occasion!
Ouia Wave Spray: Now this is a brand that everyone has been talking about recently. Beauty bloggers have been going crazy over their products! This spray is a texturizing mist that, according to the pamphlet, gives hair an effortless, undone look. I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but I'm looking forward to seeing if the brand lives up to the hype!
First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue Deep Cleanser with Red Clay: I've got some pretty bad skin, so I'm always down to try new cleansers. This one claims to "reduce excess oil, purify and balance skin" which sounds good to me. I've used this a few times and I'm not crazy about the consistency of the product, but it hasn't been making me break out, and that's always a win.
Beautyblender Blotterazzi: I've been DYING to try this product since they released it. I haven't bought it yet because, honestly, it seemed like a scam and I wasn't going to pay $20 for a sponge I might not even like. So you can imagine how my eyes lit up when I saw this in the bag. Now I can actually see if this small piece of sponge is worth its price tag.
Smashbox Photo Finish Pore Minimizing Primer: I'm a massive fan of Smashbox primers but haven't tried this one yet. By the description, it sounds like it might stand up against Benefit's POREfessional primer. Any type of pore minimizing is a plus for me and I'm looking forward to trying this out!
Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer: As a person who is just starting to venture into bronzing, this product is a welcome addition to my small collection. I've heard a lot of buzz about it in the beauty community - apparently it's one of the most natural-looking products on the market. And, like all Too Faced products, it smells deliciously like chocolate.
From the products I received in my first box, I would definitely recommend Play! by Sephora to any makeup lover! The link to get added on to the waitlist is http://www.sephora.com/play. I don't think that I'll make an unboxing post every month, but I'm sure a few of these products will show up in my summer favorites, so keep a look out for that! As always, thanks for reading!
